Obituary for Alice Eitle

Alice Eitle, 96, of Attica, passed away at 3:47 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2019 at the Willows in Willard. Arrangements are pending at the Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home in Bloomville.

Alice was born on March 3, 1922, in Attica, to the late Guy and Edna (Dawson) Gurney. She married Lauren Eitle at the Union Pisgah United Methodist Church in Attica on May 11, 1941 and he preceded her in death on August 5, 2012.

Survivors include her children, Jerrold (Barb) Eitle of Willard, Bev (George) Adams of Attica, Barbara (John) Elwood of Andover, NJ, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Alice was a homemaker and a member of the Union Pisgah United Methodist Church, where she was active in the sewing group. She was an Attica High School graduate and enjoyed gardening and playing piano. Alice was known as “Marshmallow Nana” by many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alice is also the holder of the Guinness World Record for longevity of continuous service as a church organist/pianist, at 80 years and 188 days. Alice played at Union Pisgah United Methodist Church in Attica from 1935 to 2015.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Walter, George and Lloyd Gurney, three sisters, Edith Myers, Inez Shoup and Doris Hamilton.

Funeral services for Alice will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at the Union Pisgah United Methodist Church with Pastor Barb Letterly officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, from 4-7 p.m., at the Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home in Bloomville. Burial will follow services on Tuesday at Maple Grove cemetery in New Haven, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Pisgah United Methodist Church, Stein Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.lindseyoldsfh.com.
