Alvin C. “Shorty” Schubert
Alvin “Shorty” Schubert, 84, of Republic, passed away Wednesday evening August 29, 2018, at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus after a brief illness.
Shorty was born Jan. 16, 1934, in Republic to Paul M. and Ella M. (Dolch) Schubert. He married Helen L. Powell on Nov. 10, 1956 in Republic, and she survives in Republic.
Other survivors include two sons, Doug (Elaine) Schubert of Tiffin, Dean (Terri) Schubert of New Bern, NC. Five grandchildren, Jocelyn( Joshua)Cahill Aaron Schubert, Caleb Schubert, Jason (Stephanie) Schubert, Joshua (Courtney) Schubert, five great-grandchildren, Sophia, Olivia, and Ian Cahill, Jackson Schubert, and Zoey Schubert, two brothers, Harold (Laura) Schubert of Tiffin and Vernon Schubert of Tiffin, a sister, Mrs. Katherine Gettys of Attica.
Alvin had been a truck driver from 1958-1970 for standard Oil, and later worked as a production worker at Clyde Whirlpool, retiring in 1996.
He was a 1952 graduate of Scipio-Republic High school, a US Army veteran, a member of Republic United Church of Christ in Republic, a member and past master of Seneca Lodge #790 and past worthy patron Cornelia Chapter #93 OES, both of Republic, Zenobia Shrine of Toledo, Tiffin Shrine Club, Tiffin Hornets, and had served as the ambassador emeritus to the Findlay Shrine Club, Findlay Zenobia Clowns. He was a 32 degree mason, and was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, and Edward Huber Memorial Association, and the Buckeye Allis antique tractor clubs.
Funeral services for Alvin will begin at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 4, 2018, at the Bloomville United Church of Christ, 31 North Marion Street in Bloomville, due to some construction at the Republic United Church of Christ, with Rev. Darla Metz officiating. Burial will follow at Farewell Retreat Cemetery in Republic. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Wade Benfer American Legion Post #404 of Republic.
Visitation for family and friends will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, Sept 3, 2018 at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR. 19 Bloomville. Seneca Lodge #790 will conduct masonic services at 7:45 p.m. Monday evening.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or to the Republic United Church of Christ .
