Obituary for Virgil J. Stevenson

Virgil J. Stevenson, 85, of Tiffin, passed away Wednesday morning January 8, 2020, at Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin.

Virgil was born March 9, 1934, in Tiffin to William and Geraldine Stauffer- Kirchner) Stevenson. He married Wanda Ferree on Sept. 22, 1956, in Angola, Indiana and she survives in Tiffin.

Other survivors include two nieces, Debra (Merle)Crawford, and Diane (Kevin) Myers both of Findlay, one nephew, Dennis Nivison of Lutz, Florida, two great nieces, Charlotte Nivison and Becky Myers, three great nephews, Brian (Rachel) Crawford of Brownsburg, Indiana, Shawn (Catherine) Crawford, and Destrey Nivison, both of Findlay, six great-great nieces, and three great-great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his step-father, Herschel Kirchner , and his mother and father in-law Elsie Deily and Delbert Ferree, a sister and brother-in-law Jo Ann and Dale Nivison, and sister in-law Jean Ferree, and great-great nephew, Allen Myers.

Virgil had worked for 39 years at American Standard in Tiffin, retiring on 1992 as a case maker. He was a 1952 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball on the Huffmon’s Bar softball team, during the 1960 season they won the city league championship and were runners up in the Seneca County fastpitch tournament.

He was a Korean Conflict army veteran serving from December of 1956 to December 1958.
He received awards from the Commandant of the I Corps noncommissioned officers academy for outstanding performance while at. School, and finishing seventh in his class of sixty-six is a highly commendable achievement, and this has brought a great honor not only to yourself but to your entire unit.

Services for Virgil will be Saturday January 11, 2020, at 1:00 pm. at the Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR. 19 Bloomville. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery at the corner of SR 101 and CR. 38 Tiffin. The United Veterans Council of Tiffin will conduct military graveside services.

Visitation will be Saturday January 11, 2020 from 11:30 am till 1:00 pm. at the Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home.

Virgil’s family would like to thank Dr. Amin and Dr. Rudy Vela, and the staff at Autunmwood Care Center in Tiffin for their great care.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Seneca Co. Humane Society or to Autumnwood Care Center.
