Andrew Edward Sours, 94, of Tiffin, entered the Gates of Glory to spend eternity with his Lord and Redeemer, Jesus on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Andrew was born in Seneca County on August 15, 1926, to the late Grover Cleveland and Esther May (Runion) Sours. He married Rita Marie (Lambert) on June 17, 1944 in Tiffin and she preceded him in death on April 15, 2011.
Survivors include his children, Andrea (John) Luman of Bettsville, Theresa Hemminger of Tiffin, Cynthia "Cindy" (Raymond) Heising of Tiffin, Timothy (Judy) Sours of Seminary, Mississippi and a still born daughter, twenty grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, twenty-three great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Franklin (Audrey) Callahan of Tiffin.
Andrew served in the United States Army during WWII in Paris, France. His other accomplishments include a Glass Blower at Tiffin Glass House where he became Foreman of the Blowing Room for many years. He was also a Psychiatric Aide at the Tiffin State Hospital. In his later years he worked at Wal-Mart in Tiffin where he enjoyed being Santa Claus.
Andy was an excellent outdoorsman and hunter that could live off the land. The family enjoyed many delicious meals as a result of his great skills. He also enjoyed archery in his later years. He was also a boatman and avid fisherman and superb swimmer. He was a champion swimmer at the Tiffin YMCA in his youth and served as a life guard. Later teaching all his children to swim and respect the water. Upon retirement if not traveling, he could be seen bicycling and or walking. Andrew loved animals and had a way with most even to the point of a pet squirrel that would be hand fed at the back door.
His greatest life accomplishment of all was loving and serving the Lord. He taught many bible studies and was a fervent prayer warrior. He was a faithful member of God's Lighthouse in Tiffin. Many days he spent in God's Word. He love for the Lord flowed out into all he met. His faith brought exclamations of "Jesus the Light!" As his passing drew near.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a grandson, Andrew Sours, three brothers, Willard Callahan, Homer Sours, Calvin Sours, six sisters, Betty Yenzer, Edna Fuller, Martha Aiken, Mary Tainer, Iola Chester and Rose Mobley.
Dad the one who carried us all on his shoulders when we were so little. Whose arms were oh so strong. Rest in Peace, for you have fought a good fight and have finished the race. You will be missed by all! Until we meet again......
Funeral services for Andrew will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2021, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin with the Pastor Adam Nelson officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, from 4-7 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services on Friday, at Bethel cemetery with Military Rites being rendered by the United Veterans Council.
