Obituary

Bernard D. “Bud” Eley, age 96

Bud Eley, loving husband and father of two children, passed away On October 8, 2020 in Tiffin, Ohio.  We feel grateful that he lived a long and rich life and will miss his wisdom and strength.

Bud was born on February 24, 1924 in Roundhead, Ohio to George W. and Coral (Pruden) Eley.  He received his engineering degree from Ohio Northern University after serving in the US Army in the South Pacific during World War II.  On April 27, 1946 he married E. Faye Smith in Waynesfield, Ohio. They raised two daughters, Barbara Naden and Linda Lauck. Bud and Faye shared 74 years of good times, bad times, adventure, grief and joy.

Bud worked for The Ohio Power Company for his entire career, retiring as Division manager from the Tiffin office in 1984.   He had a beautiful tenor voice and enjoyed singing in the choir at St. Paul’s Methodist Church as well as acting as treasurer for many years. Golfing, bird watching, playing bridge and technology are just a few of his many interests. He was an active member of many local organizations including University Club, Mohawk Golf and Country Club, Rotary Club, Tiffin Elks and the Masonic Lodge.

Bud treasured the visits from his family and made sure everyone felt welcomed. He was very proud of his Ohio heritage and share his knowledge with the family. As a devoted husband to Faye, he helped with cooking, projects and her health. His quick wit, kindness and hard work were appreciated by everyone who knew him.

Bud was preceded in death by his father George, his mother Coral, and 4 brothers – Paul, Bob, Curt, and Rolland. He is survived by his wife Faye, sister Nadine Flugge (Tad), brother George (Marcia), two daughters Barbara Eley Naden (Rex) and Linda Faye Lauck (Stanley), five grandchildren Scott Lauck (Gabbi), Stephanie Lauck, Russell Schildt, Jeffry Lauck (Julie) and Christine Schildt (Brian), five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family will hold a virtual celebration of his life followed by graveside service at a later date. The Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin is assisting the family with their arrangements.
