James Wertz Obituary

James Wertz, 84, of Republic, passed from this life on the evening of Monday, May10, 2021, after a long-fought battle with lung disease. Comforted by Wilma, his loving wife of 66 years, he was given into God’s hands and can now rest.

Jim was born in Republic on August 4, 1936 to Dale Ivory and Dora Evelyn (Laugherty) Wertz.

He married Wilma Jean Brown on October 23, 1954,and she survives in Republic, also surviving are his five children, James K. Wertz of Republic, Tammy L. Howard of Tiffin, Brenda K. (David) Young of Tiffin, Jeffrey L. Wertz of Bascom, and Debora J. Reilly of Tiffin. Jim was, to put it lightly, the extremely proud grandfather of seven, great-grandfather of ten, and great-great-grandfather of one. He is also survived by his much-loved siblings, Dale I.(Sonny) Wertz of Manassas, Virginia, and Sandra K. Baillie of Tiffin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, William

E. (Bill)Wertz, Dale Richard Wertz, and sisters, Jean S. Higley, Helen Wertz, Virena E. Vassalle, and Grace Werling. Also Jim’s dear friend Ricky D. Prenzlin of Republic, and he often spoke about how happy he would be once united with Rick and other family members.

Jim worked at GE in Tiffin for seven years, Davis-Bessie Nuclear Power Plant for four years, and after 22 years, retired from Excel Wire in Tiffin along with many other friends.

As well as family, he was greatly interested in World War II and enjoyed tending to his flowers and vegetable plants.

A private family service will be held Saturday May 15, 2021, at the Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR. 19 Bloomville. Burial will be in Farewell Retreat Cemetery.

A memorial gathering may be announced at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to the Republic Fire and EMS, 103 Center Street Republic, Ohio 44867. On several occasions they came to his need and always with skills, compassion and kindness that eased his distress.
