John R. Elchisco, 88, of Republic, passed away at 9:39 a.m., Sunday, February 21, 2021, at his residence with his family at his side.
John was born on July 23, 1932 in Lakeside, Ohio to the late John and Anna (Juby) Elchisco. He married Janet A. (Beard) on November 20, 1954 in Republic at the Republic Methodist Church and she preceded him in death on November 26, 2018.
Survivors include his daughter, Jenifer (Wade) Bayer of Bloomville, two grandchildren, Aaron (Heather) Bayer of Worthington, Michelle (Thom) Hooper of New Bern, NC, a great-granddaughter, Aubriella Bayer of Worthington and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Elchisco of Gaffney, SC.
John was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janet, son John C. Elchisco, and two sisters, Elaine Dorko and Nancy Stevens.
John graduated in 1951 from Danbury Township High School. He went to work at The National Machinery Co. in 1954, retiring in 1993 where he was the supervisor of the cold header department. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club.
He was a member of the Republic United Church of Christ, Eastern Star Cornelia Chapter #9, a 65 year member of Seneca Lodge F&AM 790 and the Tiffin Elks Club. John was also a member of the Board of Directors of The Republic Banking Company. He was a past mayor of Republic and served on the town council for many years.
John was an avid Ohio State football and basketball fan and a loyal follower of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed spending winters at his Florida home and especially Thursday night poker with the guys at The Gardens.

There will be private family visitation and funeral services held at the Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home in Bloomville on Saturday, February 27, 2021. Burial will be held at Farewell Retreat cemetery in Republic at a later date.
