Lela J. Brookes

Lela J. Brookes, 77, of Bloomville, passed away at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, February 18, 2021, at her residence.

Lela was born on June 24, 1943 in Norwalk, OH to the late Charles and May (Rutherford) Schmucker. She married John D. Brookes in Tiffin on May 30, 1964 and he preceded her in death on February 7, 2005.

Survivors include her children, John (Kelly) of Bloomville, Paul Brookes of Bloomville, Brian (Catherine) Brookes of Bloomville and Tammy (Brian) Miller of Green Springs, fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Lela was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Glenn and Norman Schmucker and James William Rutherford, and a sister, Lucille Brookes.

Lela was retired and a member of the Melmore Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing games on the computer, watching birds, cross words and just spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lela was a 1986 graduate of Tiffin University.

There will be a Celebration of Lela’s life held at a later date. Burial will also be held at Rock Creek cemetery at a later date. The Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home in Bloomville is assisting the family with their arrangements.
