Paul Elchert Obituary

Paul L. Elchert Jr., 73, of Tiffin, passed away peacefully at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, February 20, 2021 at St. Vincent's Mercy Medical Center in Toledo surrounded by his family.

He was born on June 15, 1947, to the late Paul L., Sr. and Ellen R. (Hartzell) Elchert. Paul was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Kenneth "Bernie" Distel and niece, Casey R. Elchert.

Paul was a strong patriarch to his family and a good friend to all. He never knew a stranger and always put others first. He was a devoted and hard-working father and grandfather who led by example. His love for family and his community will live on through his legacy.

Paul was a loving father to Eric (Angie) Elchert, Sarah (Dave) Porter, Daniel (Sara) Elchert, Alex Elchert, Alisha Godfrey all of Tiffin, and Gary (Nicole) Ringle of Columbus. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren: Braeden, Morgan and Avery Elchert; Ryan and Allison Porter; Cecilia Elchert; and Jylan, Jamison and Jayci Godfrey. Big brother to Margaret "Peg" Distel, Joseph (Nancy) Elchert, Mary (Mike) Wuescher, Urban (Pat) Elchert, Larry (Shirley) Elchert, Theresa (Dan) Reino and Pat A. Elchert all of Tiffin. Former spouse and continued friend to Renee (Smetzler) Williams. Paul will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many good friends.

Paul retired from American Standard after 38 years, where he also served as the Union President and Central Union President. Paul, always a man of action and involvement, was heavily committed to the community. He served as the 2nd Ward Councilman in Tiffin from 1988 until 2001 and also as Tiffin City Council President from 2002 until 2013. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, AMVETS, Tiffin Moose Lodge, Eagles and the American Legion. Paul was a 1965 graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School, a proud Eagle Scout and a United States Air Force Veteran.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Rader officiating. The Rosary will be prayed 30 minutes prior to Mass at church. There will be a private family visitation and burial held at St. Joseph Catholic cemetery with military rites being rendered by the United Veterans Council for the family.
