Pauline M. (Leonhart) Shade, passed away on June 9, 2021, at the age of 97. She was born February 11, 1924 in Crawford County, to the late Minus and Florence (Shoup) Leonhart. On June 6, 1953, Pauline married Willard N. Shade at St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Washington, with her sister Marilyn and his brother Herb as their attendants. Pauline and Willard celebrated more than 54 years of marriage before his passing on January 1, 2008.
She is survived by a sister, Marilyn Shade of Republic, son, Rodney A. (Sharon) Shade of Attica and step-son W. Norman (Patricia) Shade of Port Clinton. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Viola Snook and brother-in-law Robert (Carol) Shade of Willard, granddaughters, Brenda (Justin) Ruffing of Attica, Heather (Randy) Stockmaster of Bellevue, Rebecca (Steve) Bartalsky of Perrysburg and Pamela (John) Hayes of Saline, Michigan, eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Doris Heft, brother, Milton Leonhart and a grandson, Brian Shade.
Pauline graduated from the former Chatfield High School. After high school, she worked for a time as a cook at the former Holmes Liberty School in Crawford County. As well as being a homemaker, she helped out with the “books” at Shade Plumbing and Heating and enjoyed sewing, gardening and mowing lawn until her health declined in recent years. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Attica and a former member of the Attica Garden Club.
A celebration of Pauline’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, June15, 2021 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the church. Burial will follow the services on Tuesday, at Attica-Venice cemetery. The Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home in Bloomville is assisting the family with their arrangements.
