Russell R. “Doc” Miller DVM, 87, of Republic, passed away at 1:28 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Willard.
Doc was born June 11, 1934 in Republic, to the late Vernon and Alda (Nixon) Miller. He married Denise (Mizer) in Cadiz, Ohio, on August 17, 1958 and she survives in Republic.
Survivors include his daughter, Ellen (Dr. Rodney) Lynch of Republic, Russell “Rusty” Miller Jr. of Republic, two grandsons, Ethan Lynch and Thomas (Lacie Costello) Lynch, a brother, Cordell (Deanna) Miller of Republic and a sister, Avanell Morter of Melmore.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Miller, his in-laws, Dennis and Mabel (Haverfield) Mizer, four brother-in-laws, Roland “Ron” Barger, Ronald “Ronnie” Mizer, Lester Morter and Alfred “Bud” DeWitt.
Doc graduated from Republic High School in 1952 and from The Ohio State University in 1962 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Doc started working as a Veterinarian in 1962 in private practice until 1986 and concluded his career as a State of Ohio Veterinary Medical Officer in 2000. Doc was the last president of the Seneca County Health Department and was the first President of the combined Health Department. He was a member of the Republic United Church of Christ, the Seneca County Farm Bureau, the Ohio Veterinary Medicine Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Doc was a member of the Masonic Lodge #790, Tiffin Shrine Club where he served as president in 2007 and Zenobia Shrine of Toledo. Doc also participated in the Hornets Motorcycle Group of Tiffin.
Funeral services for Doc will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Republic United Church of Christ with Rev. Darla Metz officiating Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home in Bloomville and on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m., until the time of the service at the church. There will be a Masonic service held on Friday at 7:45 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services on Saturday, at St. Jacob’s cemetery.
