Ruth N. Smith

Ruth N. Smith, 100, of Republic, passed away at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 24, 2022 at the Elmwood at the Shawhan.

Ruth was born February 12, 1921, in Green Springs, to the late Earl and Jesse (Corthell) McClory. She married Raymond H. Smith on September 16, 1940, and he preceded her in death in January of 1990.

Survivors include her six grandchildren, Crystal (Bill) Bartley, Dawn (Ray) Freeze, Alan Smith, Melissa (Dave) Gurney, Tricia (Bryan) Miller, Jessica (Jessica) Cray-Smith, twelve great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth worked as a farmer's wife most all her life and also General Electric then later worked for the Ohio State Forestry Department. She loved animals, especially horses and chickens. Ruth was a member of the Tri-County Pony Puller Association and was a graduate of Green Springs High School.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two children, Sherry Smith, Raymond E. Smith and a sister, Eileen Haggerty.

A Celebration of Ruth's life will be celebrated on her 101st. birthday, Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the St. Jacob's United Church of Christ. There will also be visitation on Saturday, from 2:00 p.m., until the time of the service at the church. There will be no burial held at this time. The Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin is assisting the family with their arrangements.
