Thomas Hull Obituary

Thomas W. Hull, of rural Tiffin passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Mercy St. Vincent hospital.

Tom was born June 16, 1956, in Fremont, to the late Samuel and Hazel Hull.  He married the love of his life Dena (Stiger) in Old Fort on October 16, 1976 and she survives in rural Tiffin.

He is also survived by his four children - Ryan (April) Hull, Aaron (Andrea) Hull, Angela (Dillon) Bogner, and Tyler (Acacia) Hull and eleven grandchildren – Cale, Brock, Carson, Addison, Wyatt, Reid, Norah, Foster and Urban Hull and Mya and Rhett Bogner.

Other survivors include his sister Phyllis (Tim) Riley, Sister-in-law Cindy (Jeff) Schuller, Brother-in-law Mike Stiger, Sister-in-law Janet Work, Nieces - Diana Hull, Beth (Nate) Ash and Rachel (Chris) Hemminger, and nephews - Craig Hull, Jeffrey Schuller and Alex (Deanna) Schuller. Tom was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Hull, mother-in-law Norma Stiger and father-in-law Harry Stiger, Jr.

Tom was a 1974 graduate of Bettsville High School.  He was a lifetime farmer following in his dad and grandfather’s footsteps.  He also did maintenance at Bettsville Schools for 9 years.  Truly a “jack of all trades” he was the resource for his family for many of their own projects and has helped each of his children discover their own talents and abilities.

He had an eye for detail and a love of antique and classic cars – especially mustangs.  He was a member of the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Club based out of Auburn, Indiana and proudly served for several years as a judge of the Auburn class cars during their annual ACD Festival and Car Show.  His artistic eye has carried through into his children and grandchildren – he was so proud of every picture drawn, beaded creation or play-doh sculpture they placed in front of him.

Tom enjoyed his family over everything and was a beloved husband, treasured father and adored grandpa.  His wife, Dena, was the love of his life and he made sure to go above and beyond for her – demonstrating to his children the epitome of true love and setting a grand example of what marriage should be.  He loved his children and was always there for guidance, praise and compassionate wisdom.  Most recently, his greatest treasure was time spent with his grandchildren – watching them play with each other – in the house, in the driveway or listening to them screech and squeal playing upstairs – it was a joy for him.  Grandpa Tom will be greatly missed by his “munchkins.”

Over his lifetime, Tom had many pet companions – each one holding a special place in his heart. He is most recently preceded in death by his loyal silky terrier, Zoey, He and Dena’s labradoodle, Bailey, will be surviving him at home.

His family would like to thank Mary, Dr. Al-Khalili and the staff at Tiffin Mercy Cancer Center for all they have done and the care Tom received over the last six and a half years.

Visitation for Tom will be held at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Bettsville on Monday, May 22, 2023 from 4p.m. to 7p.m. and Tuesday May 23, 2023 from 10a.m. until time of service at 11a.m. Burial will follow at Pleasant Union Cemetery in Old Fort.
